The Essence of Small Ship Sailing

Wind Star is a sleek, 4-masted sailing yacht accommodating only 148 guests. With four decks and a gross tonnage of 5,703 you can go places the big ships can’t, so you arrive in the heart of the destination, just as if you were a guest aboard a private yacht. You will enjoy more free time in port to interact with the locals and the intimacy of small-group excursions. Wind Star features wide open teak decks where guests find hidden nooks for private moments. All staterooms have ocean views, queen or twin beds, flat-screen TV and DVD player.


Wind Star offers two primary dining venues. Amphora restaurant offers gourmet, course-by-course cuisine in the evenings and Veranda restaurant offers casual buffet and full-service dining for breakfast and lunch.

All dining is open seating. For dining under the stars, make a reservation for Candles, a romantic tête-a-tête under the stars transformed by night into a dreamlike paradise, which features steaks and skewers. Amenities include World Spa by Windstar, Watersports Platform, Lounge, Library, Pool, and Hot Tub.

Monday Dec 26 – Arrival group transfer from San Jose, Costa Rica airport to our hotel, the superior first-class Marriott San Jose (or similar), including taxes are included. Experience a seamless blend of high-tech and high-touch service at Costa Rica Marriott Hotel. Their convenient location offers unparalleled access to many prominent locales such as the San Antonio district and Britt's Coffee Tour. After exploring the grounds, featuring a golf driving range and tennis court, pamper yourself at the full-service spa. Then, unwind in our spacious rooms complete with luxury bedding and mini refrigerators. When hunger strikes, satisfy your appetite with international cuisine from one of the on-site restaurants. To stay active, visit the hotel’s fitness center and outdoor pool.

Optional flight from Phoenix to San Jose, Costa Rica in economy and business class are available with American Airlines are available.Note: Flight from Phoenix departs around 12 noon. Flying time from Phoenix to Dallas is about 2 hours; from Dallas to San Jose is about 4 hours.

Tue Dec 27 – San Jose, Costa Rica. Included breakfast at our hotel and group transfer to Puerto Caldera to board the Wind Star. Sail at 6:00 PM 

Wed Dec 28 - 9 AM TO 5 PM Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica. Playa Flamingo is considered one of Central America’s most beautiful beaches with its pristine blue water, exotic marine life, and some of the best deep-sea fishing to be found. Located in Punta Salinas on the country’s Gold Coast, Playa Flamingo is the only full-service marina between Acapulco and Panama. Other water activities include year-round SCUBA diving, swimming, and snorkeling. The stunning and unspoiled white-sand beaches will remain in your memory for years to come. Thu Dec 29 - 7 AM TO 6:00 PM Bahia Herradura, Costa Rica. The coastal area of Bahia Herradura is known worldwide as the fishing capital of Costa Rica. It is a popular tourist destination with close proximity to Jaco Beach, with its excellent surfing conditions. This area offers many other outdoor recreational options along the black-sand beaches lined with palm trees. Fri Dec 30 - 7 AM TO 6 PM Quepos (Manuel Antonio National Park), Costa Rica. 
The former banana-exporting town of Quepos is your basecamp for a day of rainforest adventure. Take a walk along trails that weave up to waterfalls, or ride horseback to a beautiful jungle pool. A float trip through a mangrove swamp populated by monkeys, crocodiles, egrets, and herons is also available. Or you may choose a nature walk through Manuel Antonio National Park, with its lovely beaches, easy trails, and abundant animal life.

Sat Dec 31 7 AM TO 6 PM Bahia Drake (Corcovado National Park), Costa Rica. Bahia Drake, a UNESCO site, offers a wide variety of activities for you. Explore the vast rainforest and expansive mangroves – home to monkeys, crocodiles, and more. Traverse the rainforest’s canopy on a zipline tour or join a naturalist guide on a horseback ride. Snorkel the waters off Cano Island, where sea turtles, dolphins, parrot fish, manta rays and more reside. Join a hiking tour through the peaceful green world of the Osa Biological Corridor listening for red macaws, toucans and other small mammals. This port is accessed with a wet landing.

Sun Jan 1 - 8 AM TO 5 PM Puerto Jimenez, Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica. Picture Jurassic foliage growing down steep hillsides all the way to the waterline, the hoots of monkeys echoing through trees choked by orchids. Golfo Dulce is one of Costa Rica’s most biodiverse areas, where both the jungle and the sea brim with life. Explore the canals by kayak in search of javelinas, butterflies, and more bird species than in all North America. This port is accessed with a wet landing.


Mon Jan 2 - 8 AM TO 6 PM Isla Parida, Panama. Located within a Nature Preserve of 50 islands, and part of Chiriqui Marine National Park lovely Isla Parida boasts magnificent beaches, one of which is over 1,300 feet long. The crystal-clear waters stay at 82 degrees year-round and are filled with marine life. There are numerous hardwood trees like teak, mahogany, and eucalyptus, and fruit trees like mango, banana and coconut trees. Here you will be treated to Windstar's Signature Beach Party on a secluded beach that faces the Pacific Ocean.

Tue Jan 3 - AT SEA. The beauty of sailing with Windstar is the elegant simplicity of the experience. No line, no distractions, no unnecessary inclusions, just effortless enjoyment. They don’t have jam-packed onboard programs filled with bingo and blackjack tournaments. Instead, drop by the Open Bridge for an impromptu lesson in chart reading. Share bottles of wine and stories with the couple sitting next to you in Candles. Listen to live music in the Lounge. Jump directly off the yacht from our Watersports Platform. Wed - Jan 4 8 AM overnight Balboa / Fuerte Amador, Panama. One of the entrances to the Panama Canal on the Pacific side, Balboa/Fuerte Amador was founded in 1519 and is a short distance from Panama City.


Thu Jan 5 - Balboa / Fuerte Amador, Panamá. Sail at 5 PM. In 2012 Balboa was ranked #1 in Latin America in the category of world's busiest container ports. Sightseeing highlights include the colonial homes, the Administration Building, the Goethals Memorial, the Prado, and the local handicraft markets of traditional Panamanian crafts.
Fri Jan 6 - 4 AM TO 6:00 PM Daytime Transit of the Panama Canal like only a small ship can! At nearly 48 miles long, on your transit through the Panama Canal you will enter three sets of locks that raise and lower the vessel 85 feet between the calm Pacific Ocean and the shimmering waters of the Atlantic. Your voyage features a daylight hours transit with numerous observation vantage points for outside viewing and comfortable indoor air-conditioned lounges. Expert onboard commentary enhances your journey as you watch the day-to-day workings of this bucket list experience.

Deposit & Cancellations: *Per person, double subject to change and availability. Single occupancy fares available on request. Air fares are subject to availability at time of reservation and must be issued within 24 hours and are non-refundable. A deposit of 15% of booking total is required within 24 hours of confirmation. Final payment is due 90 days prior to departure date. Bookings cancelled at 121 days or greater from travel will be subject to a $100 per person cancellation fee. A full refund, excluding the cancellation fee, will be made for cancellations received by Jose Catalán at Protravel in writing at 121 days or greater from travel by any mode of transportation booked through Windstar Cruises (sea or land, air travel is non-refundable once purchased). Guests who cancel after that date for any reason, including medical or family reasons, are subject to Windstar Cruises cancellation schedule. Cancellations received 120 to 90 days are subject to 15% of fare; between 89 to 60 days from departure date are subject to 35% of fare; between 59 and 30 days 50% of fare; within 29 days no refund. Failure to meet payment dates will result in automatic cancellation and forfeiture of all payment. Trip cancellation is available and highly recommended.
